My local FB pages are full of complaints about their GPs but I'd like to add a rare word of praise.I have a long standing illness so normally see a consultant but on the odd occasion I need a GP,a phonecall gets me an invite to come straight to the surgery where I'm seen at once. It's not that he has no patients-he's a one man practice with a massive list but everyone raves about him.A visit to him is a rare event, needing a lot of planning as I'm housebound and unable to walk more than a few steps.I live alone so last Sunday evening around 8pm,I was a little wary about answering a knock at the door, even more so when the porch lightbulb blew as I switched it on.In the gloom I could see a balding man whom I didn't recognise clutching a cool box of the type door to door fish vendors have been known to carry in our area.I was about to decline the offer of haddock when he addressed me by my first name and asked to come in.I eventually recognised my GP who had lost a LOT of hair since our last meeting. In he comes and, before I knew what was happening,I had both sleeves rolled up with a Covid jab in one arm and a flu jab in the other (both completely painless and with no problems later, by the way.)He explained he had spent his entire Sunday making the rounds of patients like myself in order to ensure they had their jabs at the minimum inconvenience to themselves. He was in and out in five minutes. If that's not service,I don't know what is.I know I'm lucky and sadly he's the exception but praise where it's due.
