Hi so my DH has been referred on the 2 week pathway for colonoscopy due to severe rectal bleeding
Lower right sided pain on and off.
He's feeling well in himself hasn't lost weight, good appetite, but we are both so scared and worried. The doctor was concerned because no piles or fissures on examination. He's 48
Can things like diverticulitis cause bleeding? I'm so frightened but trying to stay strong for him. 😞❤️

Hand holding here!

my DH has diverticulitis and yes he had bleeding.
his was a different story - he ended up having an emergency operation and now has a colostomy. We thought it was cancer at first - the real reason was a relief!

funnily enough I am on the two week pathway for post menopausal bleeding and a growth in my vaginal wall.

so I know how you feel - from both sides

Yes, diverticulitis and internal piles cause bleeding and both are quite common. Another cause is a haematoma, only visible on colonoscopy.
I hope there is a good outcome from his investigations.

Ulcerative colitis causes bleeding and pain as well. I have it and was terrified when I first started passing blood, but it's completely managed by medication now.

Thank you sorry you have that sending hugs. Yes it Def could be that too. It's def like some kind of flare. Bad bleeding and tapering off. We just want his camera date now so we can focus on it and hopefully it will be something manageable x
