NHS app says repeat prescription was approved but it’s not at the pharmacy

I order some medicine for my son on the nhs app and I ordered it as I do and it said approved so I called the pharmacy and they checked and it wasn’t there and said to call the doctor surgery and chase it up but they are closed until tomorrow. I don’t need it right now I’m just confused as to why the nhs app would say approved and it’s not at the pharmacy… how long does it take from being approved until it reaches the pharmacy?

It can take a couple of hours but I believe the pharmacy can normally see if it's on the way. And then of course the pharmacy needs some time to dispense it.

I normally find it takes a couple of hours, once was the next day.

I always wait till the next day to make sure.

I’ve also had prescriptions randomly sent to the wrong pharmacy so that might be worth checking with the GP practice

Pixiedust1234 · 16/11/2022 17:48

My repeats get approved by GP but I cant pick them up until 5 working days later. It used to be 2 working days but last month it got extended. Ask them how long you would need to wait usually. Its never been in a few hours unless GP put urgent on it, eg antibiotics

Is it the Hey Pharmacist app? Sometimes, if I order my meds early - out of convenience, it says approved; however the person who did the prescription has post dated it so it doesn't go over to the pharmacy until 'x' date.
Other times it's approved and at the pharmacy immediately. I've done med requests and had the medication within 12 hours before now.

Is the medicine controlled? It may be as I've said above so give the GP a ring.

Boots denied all knowledge of my prescription when I went to collect it the day after the GP prescribed it. When I told them that the GP had told me to leave it for just one day before going to collect it, the pharmacist checked and handed the meds to me within 10 minutes. So worth pushing it I think.

LeafHunter · 16/11/2022 18:28

Mine takes 36-48 hours for the pharmacist to make it up and it to be ready for collection.

Happens all the time. Chase up at the GP in case it’s been sent to different pharmacy, or they’ve muddled something.

Our Gp keeps us on our toes by occasionally sending the prescription to another random pharmacy. Apparently this is impossible without them changing our nominated pharmacy on the system- yet it keeps happening. We must be special

I have regular prescriptions and this happens all of the time. You need to call the gp to find out. Sometimes it is an admin error, sometimes it has disappeared into thin air, and sometimes there is a query on the medication (eg I was due a review, if this happens they just wait for you to call rather than calling you). I have also had the thing where it was sent to a random pharmacy.
