Knee pain

I have a lump that is profiting from the right side of the base of my knee.
It swells up to quite a size at time and other times is not really bothersome.
The last 2 days it's become very painful to walk and knee above and the bone in my leg is so painful it's constantly sore.
I went to the doctor to see about it and a second doctor came in and referred me to physio.
They could both feel mass but it didn't have jaggy edges etc so didn't seem concerned.

Has anyone any ideas and do I wait for physio or go back and ask for a scan and find out what it is? Also how can I deal with this pain

This sounds like Bursitis (or housemaids knee as it's commonly known.) Did your Doctor and physio rule this out?
It's usually treated by rest, ice packs, and ibuprofen. Also sometimes by steroid injections.
