boy am i suffering this week

i had the affected tooth removed yesterday, for the last few days though, i've had really bad smelling catarrh from my nose. it's so bad! is it just the infection clearing itself?

hmmm ot sure it would be linked, maybe u have sinusitus? maybe worth a phonecall to the dentist to check though?

loopylou6 · 30/01/2008 12:23

that was supposed to be not

sandcastles · 30/01/2008 12:24

was it an upper tooth?

sandcastles · 30/01/2008 12:27

If so it is possible that the abscess could have been v close to your sinus cavity & therefore would account for the smell.

Some roots of the upper teeth do sit in the sinus cavity, so not impossible that the abscess could be there too.

But also, as the sinuses are connected to the throat, it could just be the smell travelling up [like when you are sick & it comes out your nose]

southeastastra · 30/01/2008 12:27

yes upper tooth, i'm sure it's linked as the smell/taste is the same

crossed posts, sounds like the abscess is draining thru the nasal cavity.

southeastastra · 30/01/2008 12:30

i think that's is sandcastles. i'm in no pain (at last) do i just see if it clears itself?

Did you get antibiotics [I assume you did, for abscess] as long as you are taking those I would gove it a few days & see what happens. It should start to clear as the abscess does.

I am quite sure that it all it is, but if you get pain, I would call the dentist.

Abscesses can also have some blood in, so don't be too alarmed if it starts to be slightly streaked, any more than that, call dentist.

i did get ab's but only 1 days worth which i took before the extraction. maybe i need some more.

I would call then, see what they say.

No pain is good tho, but they may want to arm you with ABs in case.

southeastastra · 30/01/2008 13:04

thanks sandcastles, i have to be careful not to get too close to people, i really do whiff

sandcastles · 30/01/2008 13:11

Lol, no worries.

Warm salt water rinses are good too...

southeastastra · 30/01/2008 14:39

called the local dr, they were quite surprised dentist didn't give me a follow up of ab's. quite with him.

hooray! got a week's worth of penicillin. just hope they work quickly, this smell is rank.

It is surprising, tbh...

But glad you have them now, shouldn't take too long to kick in, normally 24-48 hours, but as you had the pre extraction ab's may not take so long.

southeastastra · 01/02/2008 19:14

i still feel ill, this is getting me down now.
