Cough causing pain

Have had a cough since Christmas time. It is still waking me at night , I think when I start to breathe through my mouth and it catches on my throat. A bit mucousy but not nasty as you' d expect of an infection. However the cough is now such a deep seated one that it pulls right into my abdomen, I feel as if I have reflux, and a couple of times have felt a sharp pain behind my ribs. It subsides if I straighten up for a moment but is unpleasant . Any ideas either as to what the pain is or how finally to combat the persistent cough.

You might have cracked a rib. I did this during a chest infection. There was nothing they could do for me though other than painkillers.

Have you seen the doctor though, I just reread and you've had the cough a while. You might need antibiotics.

have u been to the docs about the persistent cough? u might need antibiotics

You could have pleurisy, which is infection in the lung lining (from what i remember). It causes sharp pain when breathing in and definitely needs antibiotics.
You must go to the doctor asap, sounds horrible for you.

I was at drs for a UTI and had ab 's for that a couple of weeks back. tbh it isn't constant through out the day just harsh when I do cough, breathing quite normal the vast majority fo the time, and now sometimes this pain too.

You would be prescribed different ABs for a chest/lung infection. I really think you should get it checked especially with the pain you are getting. When i had pleurisy my breathing was fine but the sharp pain was horrible. Hope you feel better soon.

ok so finally got to gp today after I started bringing back small amounts of food. AB's for residual chest infection , inhaler and antacids plus need to go back next week.
