Switching back to Combined Pill

Hi.

I wasn't sure were to actually post this but am just seeing if anyone else has had a similar experience.

So basically, I was on the combined pill from about 16 to 36.... I spoke to my doctor last year and said I was getting migraines (without an aura) so we agreed to take me off combined pill because of my age and risk of strokes etc, so I started the mini pill. I was on the mini pill for about 7 months and decided I had enough as my mood seems to have got worse, skin is terrible (currently look like I have a disease on my chin), hair seems to be thinning, really dry eyes and just feel like crap. Ahem. (I should also explain I also switched some anxiety meds and upped the dosage which was Duloxetine, this was within 2 months of also switching my birth control)

Anyway, I assumed most of the symptoms would be from the birth control and had an appointment with a doctor. So, she told me that she actually thought it could be the Duloxetine and could also have affected my thyroid. I also assumed because the other doctor told me to come off the combined pill I wouldn't be able to go back on it. However, this doctor said no it's ok if I don't have an aura with the migraines and I don't smoke etc so it should be fine!

So, about 3 weeks ago I switched back to a combined pill (different to what I was on before) and hoping my symptoms will get better. I also had a blood test to check my thyroid but as far as I know that was ok but my LFT was slightly high. (Still waiting to talk to doc about that result).

So, my question is (Sorry for the ramble lol!) has anyone had to switch back because of side effects of mini pill and if so how long did it take to feel "normal" again and did any acne/dermatitis die down?! Or, does it sound like it might be the Duloxetine?!

I am going to give it a few months and if nothing has changed I will then have to look at the Duloxetine I suppose......🙄Wish I never changed anything!

Hey.
Unfortunately I'm not much use in the experience side of things.
But what I do know, is anyone who suffers with migraines with aura cannot take pills with estrogen in due to the increased risk of stroke etc. I'm a chronic migraine sufferer with aura so I've never been allowed on it. So if I read correctly, the 2nd GP would be correct.
But saying that if the 1st DR had concerns, it may be due to other factors also. More so, there is nothing to say you won't suddenly get aura with any migraines you experience from it too. It can come on suddenly.
I know this is potentially adding salt to an open wound but could coming off any type of pill and trying something different such as one of the coils be more effective for you potentially?
I currently have the marina. And in terms of side effects I experienced them for only 6 months as it needs time to settle in the body, and it's been amazing since.
If you don't notice any changes now having switched back, I'd recommend contemplating something else. And as you said, maybe the Duloxetine could be triggering this so that will definitely be worth a look if that is the case.
Everything comes with side effects so when you have multiple things going on, it's never easy. I sympathise.
Sorry I can't be of much help to you! I hope everything settles for you soon xx
