I've come home loaded down with anti-emetics in case it makes me ill.

And have a nurse coming round on Monday to show me how to inject myself with stuff to make my blood count higher all next week.

I'm just sitting here waiting to feel sick

Hi anorak - hope you haven't been sick!

When my mum was having chemo, she also had acupuncture to help keep her energy levels up. She found it invaluable. (Didn't stop her hair falling out though!)

BadKitten · 30/01/2008 09:30

Am wondering how you are feeling too. Hope you are doing ok.

MummyDoIt · 30/01/2008 09:37

Anorak, I hope you don't get too many side-effects but, however you feel, make sure you mention it to the dr as there is usually something they can give you. No need to suffer in silence. DH gets constipation and nausea but is prescribed stuff to help. Dad got a very sore mouth and sore hands and feet when he was on chemo and, again, they were able to give him cream (not the same one!) which really helped.

mistlethrush · 30/01/2008 09:42

Also, if the anti-emitics not working, or you think that they're not right - tell them and they can probably find something different (I got given something that gave me very peculiar side-effects and got swapped onto something better). You can also get a mouth-wash which helps with mouth ulcers if these become a problem.

Hope it all goes as well as it can.

Hope you are feeling OK today. Sending lots of strong anti-sickness, anti-hairfallingout and anti-lowenergy vibes from Budapest.

NewYearNewStart · 30/01/2008 11:06

I was wondering how you were this morning too, thinking of you lots and i'm hoping you're feeling as ok as you can xxx

anorak · 30/01/2008 13:05

Good morning all, or afternoon where you are! Despite muddling my anti-emetic medication last night I had a perfectly ok night and have not felt any ill-effects yet except a bit of a headache last night.

Thanks for all your messages, it's so great to have people to chat to, as I haven't yet made any friends here having only been in Bermuda 3 months and spent most of that trying to furnish my house, get my kids settled into to school and going back and forth to the hospital!

fab news anorak. i used to get headaches too, but they soon pass, and my experience was that i felt a bit achey and a bit pants for about five days then started feeling better. i also remember my oncologist telling me to avoid crowded places in the second week (when your immune system takes a dive) so managed to avoid supermarket shopping for several months - what a bonus!
if you do start feeling sick and you're after some tips to feel better, post away and I'll try and remember!
Re your hair - mine started coming out about 2 weeks later, as you've been advised. I find it hurt a bit to touch - rather like when you've had your hair in a bunch really tightly and then you let it out, so in the end we shaved it all off. I don't know how old your lo is (are) but we were careful to make sure that my dd was around when we shaved my hair off, so that she could see that it was something that I was OK with. She was only 3 at the time and totally took it in her stride.
I've just seen my oncologist today (2. 5 years after diagnosis) and he's put me on annual checks (rather than six monthly) so I'm feeling on top of the world.
One treatment down, fewer to go, and before you know it, it'll be done and you'll be 2 years down the line too.

Anorak did you suffer from morning sickness when you were pregnant.

TheMolesMother · 30/01/2008 15:52

Good luck, anorak. Side effects are very dependent on the kind of chemo you are having. I've had two sorts. The first, taxotere, gave me a couple of days of feeling like I had the world's worst hangover with things gradually improving after that. The second, navelbine, had very few side effects except for a grinding fatigue.

Wishing you all the best.

suedonim · 30/01/2008 16:31

Wishing you all the best, Anorak. A friend has just been through chemo and the worst side effect was a couple of days' tiredness; she had no sickness and just a little hair thinning and I hope that's how it is for you too.

seb1 · 30/01/2008 17:02

The reason I asked about morning sickness is apparently how sick you were with morning sickness can indicate how you will cope with chemo.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/01/2008 17:07

Hope you're still feeling OK anorak.

That headache will be from that 2 litre bottle of wine

Great to hear you anorak. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you were getting on. I'm doing art therapy in a bc group, which is great and there are very nice other women. Next month I have my 1st 3 month check and an op to take out the port for my new boob.

Hope all goes wellxx
