coughing and wetting myself

I've had a throaty coughy bug for about 3 weeks.

The cough is exhausting.
The throat is on and off very painful and fine.
dd has had same bug we spent half term curled up on sofa with fire etc, and she still missed 3 days first week back.
(both tested for covid and negative)

But right now it is the cough that is killing me. I get these coughing fits, totally overcome by the cough. Overwhleming awful coughing fits. Can't catch my breath.
I was in the car yesterday with a passenger and I got a coughing fit, was all I could do to control the car, nowhere to pull over it was awful.
Had it last night and ended up throwing up due to coughing.

But the worst thing is that when the cough is that bad I lose bladder control, completely wet myself. Yesterday car seat was soaked, I was so embarrassed, fortunately I didn't have to get out when I dropped her off.
I can just keep control if I stand up and cross my legs tight, but I it is really really awful.

Never had anything like this. Between coughs I am happily working away (I work from home, self employed). Just that about 3 times a day I am taken over by the cough.

Don't know why I'm posting really. Just so fed up.

In the short term, get the high absorbency Tena Lady.

For the Remembrance event, plan your exit route (playing as in instrument? Are you a soloist?).

And look at root causes. Did you test for covid?

You might to tighten up the muscles down below.

Try visiting Elaine at the Gusset Grippers website. She has done good advice.

It's right there in the OP...

I've had that cough for five weeks now but it's starting to abate. Would love to know where my voice has gone though, maybe Santa will give it back 😂

Short term, get the right cough medicine. If you are coughing up phlem then get the expectorant type. Get tena lady or pads in the meantime, and go to the toilet more often so you don't ever have a full bladder. Sipping cold water can help at the beginning of a cough.

Once you are better/able to cope, start on your your pelvic floor exercises

Thanks all for your support
was just feeling so crap yesterday.

I don't usually have pelvic floor issues, which is why this has been such a shock. There is just something about this cough that is so physical.

Tena lady is a great idea I hadn't thought of that.

Remembrance day is a brass band so march in the parade and then stand and play by the war memorial. Right in the middle of the bnad and nowhere to duck out to.
But in rehearsal last night at least playing didn;t make me cough, so that's a plus.

Pixiedust1234 yes I have a hoarse voice too. It sucks. Especially as I do a lot of teaching.
