Is pneumonia contagious?

DC was hospitalised with bacterial pneumonia arising from back to back RSV infections/bronchiolitis resulting in hospital admissions in the previous weeks. She is home now after a few days with antibiotics. Is bacterial pneumonia contagious? Do I have to worry about my other DC contracting it from her or did she only get it because her immune system was already compromised with the previous bronchiolitis infections?

I stupidly forgot to ask in the hospital about any potential risk to my other DC and now I’m worried.

Thanks

Yes it can be contagious for up to 14 days.

Yes it is contagious. Just make sure phlegm / snot etc go in a tissue and a lot of handwashing and it should be fine.

While I was in hospital with her my other DC developed a cough and a mild fever (below 38.4c.) She is in good spirits but is off school. Should I ring her gp and see about antibiotics for her now? Her cough is not bad and doesn’t sound productive, I’m just worried now in case she has caught her sisters pneumonia
