Armpit lump help?!

iwantittobepink · 08/11/2022 20:23

Hiii,
Just pre facing this with I am calling and attempting to get an appointment with my GP tomorrow!
So I was working a week ago when I suddenly felt horrible pain under my armpit.. presumed my underwire from my bra had pinged out! Found that there was a very painful red lump in my armpit which made my arm ache a bit. The next day my arm was super painful and the lump was solid and huge.
4 days later and the pain is pretty much gone, but there is now a solid smaller lump which doesn't move. All other swelling/pain gone, I can really poke and prod it and it's fine.
Anyone had this before and it not been something horrendous? I'm trying not to panic due to the sheer pain a week ago and how it came out the blue!
Thanks for any words of wisdom!

It's probably a blocked gland/an ingrowing hair. There is a condition that causes it but I hesitate to say what it is because I don't want you fretting! It most likely is a one-off. I'll say that again, it's most likely a one-off.

You should post in Sporners, they will have advice on how to get rid of it. Although they will demand a photo. Grin

Sporner Corner it's called in Topics, I can't link I'm in the app. Good luck!

I've had this several times before and yes I always assumed it was swelling from a gland or ingrown hair. Always went away on its own.

wormshuffled · 08/11/2022 21:17

I had this twice recently, put it down to having changed deodorant to the strong role on in the green bottle. They went away after a week. Mine was really close to the skin surface. Is yours?

iwantittobepink · 09/11/2022 07:34

Hi,
No new deodorant, and yes it was close to the surface but now it's gone down if that makes sense... it's no longer visible but easy to feel when prodded!
I'm hoping it is a blocked node, I had a sore throat for a week (no covid tho!) so praying it's a reaction to that!
I'll look for that group but I don't think a pic will show anything Smile here's hoping the gp's can give me my yearly appointment soon!

I’ve had this several times. Cysts. Mine always came to a head and loads of pus squeezed out. Sporn delight 🤢
Get yourself to GP though if possible, just in case.

iwantittobepink · 09/11/2022 10:12

It's super frustrating, it was too painful to initially try to burst and now it's gone too deep!!
GP has no appointments today, doesn't do routine appointments, and no longer does push doctor etc 🙄

Can you do a hot compress to draw it out?

This is definitely worth a try. Came to say it myself.

jamontoastaddict · 09/11/2022 20:45

I've had a few of these and they are so incredibly painful! Weirdly so.

Most have just cleared up naturally but one needed antibiotics

Yours sound horrendous with the growing and shrinking. Look at armpits on sporners

Turmerictolly · 09/11/2022 20:52

I have this in my left armpit when I have viruses - the glands swell and ache. It goes away eventually but best to get it checked out. Started about 5 years ago.

Tried it, didn't do anything!

I've had a look on sporner corner, just don't think they'll accept me without my pic 😂

Reassuring to hear this could be normal though!

I had an abscess under my arm, kept flaring up and then settling until it decided to ruin my first holiday in years. I ended up getting it drained in hospital, but I think that is the worst case scenario. Hopefully the pain last week was it bursting? I used dettol soap under my arms for a month after it healed..

Get to the doctors in case there is anything they can do.

JustBkind · 09/11/2022 22:43

I’ve had these several times and been ingrown hairs. Saw the doctor who wasn’t concerned at all and said the lump was on the surface and something sinister wouldn’t be (would be deep in the pit of the underarm instead) and most likely (though not always) wouldn’t be painful. Always went away within 2-5 days but hurt really bad at the start. I ended up changing from cream deodorant to normal roll on and never had it since!

Hmmm that's a bit worrying because I would say where it was just under the surface, it's now deep, painless and solid. But it's also bean shaped which I've been told is usually a node. Fingers crossed that's what the doctor will tell me 😩

I'm not qualified, but sounds more like infection if it's big, raging, then gets smaller - but absolutely get it looked at - good luck
