Lump sticking out of hole in nail?!

Sorry for the gross picture. I normally wear glue on nails..about a week ago whist using a machine at work it took my false nail straight off along with a chunk of my own nail!
i was left with a hole and since then this lump is sticking out. I have been cleaning it keeping it dry but a week later it’s still so sore and keeps oozing yellow pus
The pain makes me want to vomit and faint at the same time!
I went to a pharmacist who said it looked like it was healing.
im curious what the hell this lump is?

Is it looking better than before or worse? Is it warm to touch? Just wondering if it's infected? If it's got pus coming out it could be, I think I may be contacting the GP if it's that sore and not getting better

That's just the tissue under your nail poking through. I have 3 toenails like that at the moment due to habitual removal of toe nails but it will heal. Keep it clean.

habitual removal of toe nails

???

RicherThanYews · 04/01/2023 03:37

Self harm, trauma blah blah. My post was purely to reassure the Op.

I had something that looked like that and the pain was as you describe, and it was an infection and needed antibiotics. Please try to see a GP, and good luck!

Granulation tissue?

SlurpSlooChortle · 04/01/2023 20:50

Oh my ducky! Why did I click on this.

OP I hope you get better soon but get a GP appointment.

Wishiwasatailor · 04/01/2023 20:52

Looks like overgranulation. The skin has overhealed itself around the wound. Practice nurse might be able to treat with silver nitrate

Wishiwasatailor · 04/01/2023 20:53

Unlikely to be a gp job. Possibly MIU if it’s not horrendously busy.

mackerelskymackerelsky · 04/01/2023 20:58

Can you stick a plaster on it in a way that the pad of it gently keeps the lump still, so you're not banging it or rubbing it on anything?

Granulation tissue?

This is what I was going to say.

There was another thread very recently with almost the same issue. It was granulation tissue I believe.
