Hi does anyone take these for sinus tachycardia? I currently take bisoprolol but my cardiologist wants me to try these instead. I'm really nervous about taking them for some reason. I can't up my dose of bisoprolol as they lower my blood pressure too much.

Hello, did a search for ivabradine as it has been prescribed for me too, as alternative to beta blocker. How have you been getting on with it?

TSJ19 · 23/11/2022 15:48

Hi i still haven't started mine yet. I caught Covid again and was quite ill this time so my doctor wanted me to wait a while. Why was you prescrided it as an alternative?

Oh that’s unlucky, poor you! Hope you’re feeling much better, did covid mess with your heart rate?
I am asthmatic and should never have been given beta blockers in the first place 😬. Been having unexplained “episodes” of very high heart rate.

TSJ19 · 23/11/2022 16:07

Hi yes it did mess with my heart rate makes it go really fast, usually a few days before i test positive and then it settles down again. Have they investigated why you're having the episodes of a fast heart rate? Mine seems to be happening more often lately.

COVID has so many horrible effects. I've had some investigations, but no cause identified as yet. GP thinks anxiety, A&E think possibly POTS (after covid).

LifesABotch · 23/11/2022 17:25

Sorry to hear you're getting worse, I have been too Sad

TSJ19 · 23/11/2022 17:33

They think mine could be due to my jabs so i was advised not have a booster or they said long Covid. I did think mine could be POTS but they have ruled this out.

That's worrying for you! Suppose it might not be worth the risk of you having a booster, especially if medical professionals are advising against. But not good to get covid either.
Was POTS ruled out by any specific tests?
I wondered if my issues were to do with covid vaccinations too, but nobody has been able to say one way or the other, and they think more likely a consequence of covid rather than vaccine... Horrible either way!

TSJ19 · 23/11/2022 22:05

They ruled out POTS from my 24hr heart monitor which diagnosed sinus tachycardia. I am a lot worse around my period though, so that's why I sometimes think it could be POTS.
I am hopefully going to be refered back to cardiology

Seems like POTS can be tricky to diagnose (have looked into it too) so I suppose it's possible you do have it. Ivabradine actually helps a lot with POTS in some people. Hope you get referred back to cardiology!

FrauleinEngelhart · 25/11/2022 12:17

I had bisoprol for covid related POTS. Also have asthma. It really exacerbated it and am now on nebivolol instead which has really helped with both the HR and the tight chest.

FrauleinEngelhart · 25/11/2022 12:17

Sorry bisoprolol.

LifesABotch · 25/11/2022 16:54

@FrauleinEngelhart sorry to hear, beta blockers exacerbated my asthma too! Should never have been prescribed by GP. Changed onto ivabradine by cardiology, hopefully will do the trick... good that you're doing much better!

LifesABotch · 25/11/2022 16:55

*obviously you're still on beta blocker, but know different ones can be better/worse for asthma

TSJ19 · 25/11/2022 16:57

How are you finding the Ivabradine?

OP posts:
LifesABotch · 25/11/2022 18:47

Not long started it, but ok so far. Was worried about starting it, but been ok. Doesn't have the more immediate effect of beta blockers, but seems to be doing something and hopefully will control heart rate better overall until they find out what's causing it 🤞
