Pain in soft tissue under sternum

For the past few weeks I've been having an uncomfortable feeling in what seems like the soft tissue under the sternum. It is more noticeable at night and sometimes can be a bit painful. Any ideas what this is? Obviously will contact the GP but actually seeing someone takes ages.

How uncomfortable is it? That sounds like the sort of position my gallbladder pain was with gallstones - if I ate too much fat it became absolutely excruciating and would go on for hours (worse at night after an evening meal). If I had only had a bit too much fat it was painful but not totally unbearable (but I do apparently have a high pain threshold, I say apparently because I don't know how anyone else feels pain - only that I've been told before that I must do 🤷‍♀️). For me the pain was under my sternum/right side of ribcage and then radiated into my back. Trial and error with fat levels might rule this out for you, and/or a blood test at the GP

Thanks for your reply. I would say it's not too painful but feels strange and a little painful at times. Feels like I'm going to be laughed out of the doctors surgery if I say that though

I had exactly this and it was silent reflux. Much improved after GP prescribed Omeprazole
