Sensitive skin months after sunburn

I stupidly got sunburnt at the beginning of summer. I was at the beach and it was quite breezy, I didn't think to put any sun cream on. I burnt quite badly and it was a few days before I could wear anything that touched my skin - and when I did my skin broke out into hundreds of tiny blisters. A few months on and the skin on my chest is still sensitive. It doesn't hurt as such, but I am conscious of it when clothes touch my skin. Is there anything I can do? Have I permanently damaged myself?

Yes.

You've permanently damaged the skin and you need to take extra special care of it.

Sunscreen, covering up in daylight and trying to prevent the same thing happening again.

It may well become less sensitive, but it will take time. What you're describing sounds like a second degree (partial thickness) burn.
