Virus like Covid but negative tests

I know quite a lot of people who are currently or recently suffering with bad coughs, fever, body aches, sore throat etc… Covid right? Only tests are negative. Anyone else ill right now with this, I feel rubbish!

Me, I had covid 3 months ago and this is nothing like that, it's worse!

39.8 fever at one point 40.0
Aches and pains everywhere
Headache
Neck pains
Stomach ache
Shivers
Sore throat, like swallowing glass
Can't sleep even though I'm exhausted with trying to reduce temperature. Tepid sponge, fan on low, I'm freezing but temp is still 39.5 so I take ibuprofen then paracetamol, I've been like this for 3 days. Doctor has now prescribed antibiotics because he thinks I have infection.

Feeling completely shit!

Spudina · 24/10/2022 22:43

There are other viruses doing the rounds. Get well soon.

Beanbagtrap · 24/10/2022 22:45

Just a standard virus then.

mynameiscalypso · 24/10/2022 22:46

We've all had it too. Nothing like Covid for us and much worse.

Bzzz · 24/10/2022 22:54

It could be covid. Everyone in my house but DH is testing positive. He has symptoms yet is testing negative. I can't help but think he does actually have covid like the rest of us

AquaticSewingMachine · 24/10/2022 22:57

There are tons of viruses like COVID. Rhinoviruses. Flu viruses. There has always been a shit load of stuff circulating in winter. I don't know why people suddenly appear to think that COVID is the only virus in existence. You feel sick, so take paracetamol and rest and you'll feel better soon.

newnamenellie · 25/10/2022 07:56

Thanks all, I think you’re right, it is worse than Covid. I totally get that there are other viruses and always have been, I’ve recently had Covid and flu jabs (clinically vulnerable), so very likely it’s neither of them!

Geneticsbunny · 25/10/2022 08:27

You can still get flu if you have had the flu vaccine. I think it is something like 30% of people vaccinate against flu won't get it and a further 50%will have reduced severity of symptoms. You may be in the unlucky 20%.

newnamenellie · 25/10/2022 09:41

@Geneticsbunny true! I realise that having been vaccinated doesn’t prevent me from being unlucky. Anyway, whatever it is, let’s hope it’s gone soon. Get well everyone!

OP posts:
RudsyFarmer · 25/10/2022 09:43

It’ll be another coronavirus.

newnamenellie · 25/10/2022 11:49

@AquaticSewingMachine I know there are other viruses going around, I also know loads of people with Covid at the moment. All I meant was that we’re all very aware of Covid symptoms and so most of us will assume that’s what it is in the first instance. I wasn’t asking for sympathy, I’m quite clear what to do when I feel unwell.

It's not "just a standard virus" when your in the throes of it. It can be very scary not knowing how your body will react, especially in the middle of the night when symptoms are always worse.

Hope your feeling better OP, I'm left with a headache today but I'm much better than yesterday.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/10/2022 17:49

Me! I'm only starting to feel better today, so a good 9 days. Still have extreme tiredness & very sore, burning eyes.

I've had covid, and this cold has been WAY worse. I was able to keep wfh with covid, this cold had me struggling to even walk in a straight line let alone work. Even from home.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 26/10/2022 09:23

I've got some cold virus (keep testing every day but negative). Worst thing with mine is I'm fine for a few days then a cold hits me again...

newnamenellie · 27/10/2022 12:23

Hope those of you who are unwell are starting to feel better. I’m still feeling bad, ended up going to GP yesterday as I suspected a chest infection which was confirmed. Now on antibiotics and told to go back tomorrow if no better. I have a history of nasty chest infections on the back of flu type viruses, but this is a rotten one. All I would say is, if you’re still feeling dreadful after several days, contact your GP.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 27/10/2022 12:27

Either it's a different virus

Or It's covid that evades LFTs

Either way, treat the symptoms, seek medical help only if you are really not coping at home, have a v high temperature or low SATs, or other concerning symptom.

And stay at home as much as possible but if you have to go out, wear a mask.

Whatever virus it is, other people don't want it

newnamenellie · 27/10/2022 12:43

Blimey, there are some offhand posts on here. I think those of us who are unwell are all au fait with the protocols for not spreading viruses. I agree with @AtSomePointInLife that when you’re feeling rotten with whatever it is, you just want a bit of reassurance from others who are ill. As for this nonsense about not getting things checked out, I’m sorry but I felt so ill yesterday, I knew it wasn’t just a virus and that it had developed into a chest infection. I told the GP that I was worried about getting seen, and she said it was absolutely the right thing today given how unwell I clearly was.

You poor thing! Mine has turned into sinusitis which isn't as bad as a chest infection but still annoying. Haven't been this ill for years and years!

Pixiedust1234 · 27/10/2022 13:11

Get well soon OP. I had covid over a month ago, now got something like it but isn't it. I'll get a couple of days fine then BAM! right back to sweats and shivers. Had to make a GP appointment as I can hear crackling every time I breathe. Ugh! Please make it stop! 😫
