How many bottles of cough mixture should I go through before Iyou know you need a doctor ?

Been rough for a week.
Head and throat has cleared but I just cannot shift this chesty cough.

I don't feel as I'll as the last time I had a chest infection...but I know I let that go on too long as was really run down at the time.

I have done nearly 3 bottles of benolyn (sp)
And full dosage of pain killers for muscle pain .

Fed up now.
It is just bubbling inside me .

Are you coughing stuff up or just coughing?

Coughs can linger literally for weeks. Cough medicine merely soothes, it doesn’t treat. I think if it was a chest infection you would have a full on fever and feel really poorly

Mild fever.
Just one minute hot then cold .

Can you get some codeine ? Boots sell co codamol. Codeine is an effective cough suppressant

I had a cough for 8 weeks last autumn - all part and parcel of a particularly unpleasant cold. Never occurred to me to use cough medicine OR see a doctor - these things just take time. Yes, it's annoying, but it will pass eventually. No point in wasting doctor's time.

You shouldn't take cough medicine at all. It actually stops you coughing and trying to clear your chest.

Just pop the cough medicine in the bin where it belongs. Hope you feel better soon!

Different cough medicines will act differently, you need to make sure you using the right one for the type of cough you have.

Generally a dry cough you want to suppress with something like codeine linctus. A wet cough you want something to help bring up the gunk, though keeping yourself well hydrated will also help. Pop to your local chemist they should help.
