Best opticians

Hi Everyone I need to change my glasses. I haven't done so for a really long time. I have astigmatism and will need varifocals again I guess.

Where is the best place to go? I have a lot of different places to choose from - independent, Boots, Spec Savers etc.

Many thanks

My experience of Boots is excellent, I'd avoid Specsavers unless it's a bog standard prescription and not varifocals. I've tried independent opticians but wasn't overly impressed and very expensive.

If cost is an issue, you won't get better than Asda opticians, especially with needing varifocals

Independent, family run all the way. I switched optician to a well known private chain where I live (just for convenience as much closer to home) and found there was a massive difference in terms of quality of treatment. It was more ‘high tech’ although the knowledge of the optician herself was lacking and a completely wrong diagnosis was made. Later learnt the optician I saw was only 2 years qualified and had previously been employed in Specsavers - it all suddenly made a lot of sense when I discovered that!

I would go for an Independent one ideally family owned I switched from a Chain to a local family run one. They picked up on something missed by the chain (they requested my notes/photos/scan to check).

I see the same person everytime that I go there. They have a good choice of frames etc and you do not get the hardsell that you get in some chains.
