Vocal cord paralysis anyone?

I had to have some investigations last week to check out a swelling on my thyroid gland. Whilst looking inside my throat with a naso-endoscope the consultant said that I have partial vocal cord paralysis and has referred me to speech therapy, but it will be a long wait. He said that the problem with my vocal cords isn't connected to the lump on my thyroid, which feels unlikely to me but...

I've been having some problems with swallowing/gagging/breathlessness lately and noticed that my voice is weaker, but totally thought it was connected to my thyroid.
Has anyone else been told they have this? And what was the cause/treatment for you?

I had it years ago. No idea what caused it, prolonged cough after a bad cold seemed the most likely. Half a dozen sessions of speech therapy sorted it permanently. The most useful advice is if you have a cough, try to sip water instead of cough.

Thanks @Spanielsarepainless I haven't had a virus (Covid in March, but no cold/cough symptoms), do constantly feel like I need to cough/clear my throat at the moment though. It's reassuring that it completely resolved for you.

I felt the same. Oddly, my ancient Labrador had a similar problem. He didn't get speech therapy though!
