Dry Socket...help!

My lower molar was extracted 7 days ago. Due to increasing pain I returned to the dentist and was told I had dry socket - the dentist packed it with a clove mix. 2 days ago I returned to the dentist to have it repacked and I was given ABs for an infection. Most of the pain I have now is in teeth not next to the tooth that was extracted but a few along...is that normal? My mouth is agony and stopping me sleeping...I'm just misrable.

I had dry socket and I do remember worrying that the pain seemed to have moved along too. Mine cleared in the end. Hang it their it’s brutal

Had this before, its hell. You could try, thought not all at same time- dissolvable codeine tablets (essential), hot salt water, oragel, whisky, crushed garlic

Thanks @Kikifava . That makes me feel better. I'm on holiday and totally misrable. I thought it was weird it was affecting the teeth not next directly next to the extraction site. Hopefully it passes soon..

I had a tooth extracted last Thursday. I've been worrying about dry socket as I've often read about the excruciating pain on here.

How many days post extraction could this occur. I don't want excruciating pain. So far nothing, am I safe yet?

Sorry you are in pain, I have found it quite stressful losing a tooth.

I had this - the only way I got through it was round the clock cocodomol- it will make you sleepy but I remember the agony

Skinnyjeansandaloosetop · 19/10/2022 21:24

I had this too. It was unbearable pain, I have a lot of sympathy. I think in the end your nerves go haywire and your brain doesn’t know where the pain is. I took ibuprofen and codeine with paracetamol together regularly for a couple of days until the antibiotics had started to work. Hope it gets better soon

Thanks for your comments. @HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks i think after a week the risk of dry socket massively drops. The dentist said I was unlucky as it only 5-10% of extractions. Hopefully you'll be okay. I never thought the recovery would be this rough!!

Ouch! I've seen lots of dry sockets and love the clove filling smell Blush.

The pain will eventually ease. It's not nice though and can be very painfully

PinkButtercups · 19/10/2022 21:30

Painful*.

fantasmasgoria1 · 19/10/2022 21:33

I had this. I didn't get the socket packed but I was given antibiotics. I thought it was never going to end but by the 7th day of the tablets the pain was about gone. Op I really hope yours goes away soon.

@Onthehill12345 yes it was a shock to have my tooth pulled. My molar literally cracked in half eating walnuts. I had no time to prepare for the extraction and I was so scared and cried in the dentist. I've been so worried about dry socket having read about it. I think it would tip me over the edge. You are very brave, I really hope that you feel better soon.

Thanks for all your comments of support. I don't want to speak too soon but it feels slightly better... hopefully it continues.
