Mini pill side effects? Or something else?

I started taking the mini pill just before my period was due in the hope that it will make it lighter. Since taking it for only 2 days I've felt achy, extremely tired, stiff joints and particularly very achy legs. I've also been very hot and sweaty at night, which I usually get just before my period but it has been worse than usual these last few days. I've actually stopped taking it now because I have health anxiety and it's freaking me out that I feel like this after only 2 pills. I usually get palpitations but these have also got worse, probably because I'm so anxious. I'm just going to wait for my period to arrive now.

Has anyone else ever felt like this after taking the mini pill or does this sound like it's something else?

How old are you, OP? Those symptoms sound a little bit like perimenopause, could it be the start of things fluctuating?

@Lula74 I'm 38. My periods have got extremely heavy over the last year and it'd got to the point where I needed them to calm down a bit so I could function properly! I have had the heavy, achy leg feeling before. No idea what it is. Not sure if the mini pill caused any of this so I might just have to see if happens again once I'm feeling better.

@CreatingHavoc It might be worth asking GP to check your iron levels if your periods have gone mad. I felt low grade unwell with heavy periods for a long time and it turned out I was anaemic and a lot of my symptoms improved sorting that out. Worth a try? I hope you feel better soon 💜

@Lula74 i am chronically low in iron unfortunately. Have just bought some different supplements as I can't take the prescription ones. Hopefully they will make a difference.

@CreatingHavoc Hopefully they will, getting my iron levels back up made a difference for me.
