Ibuprofen gel or tablets?

Does anyone know which is more effective? I have something wrong with my foot and ankle. Probably some kind of tendinitis or ligament problem. It's painful.

I've been putting ibuprofen gel on it regularly for a couple of days and it does help with the pain but it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Would taking an ibuprofen tablet by mouth (instead of the gel obviously) be more effective or is gel on the site the better way to go?

Thanks.

Ibuprofen gel or tablets are just painkillers. They may reduce swelling a bit but they won't fix it. Stronger than ibuprofen gel is diclofenic gel, brand name volterol.
Rest and ice.
