Wisdom tooth removal & breastfeeding

I have an impacted wisdom tooth that needs removing. It should have been done years ago but I've had almost back to back pregnancies

The dentist wants to book me in next month but I'm still breastfeeding. Although she is over 1yr she still likes to feed to sleep and has a couple of feeds overnight. Anyone know if this will be difficult with the recovery from removal? How debilitating is it?

I'm wondering whether to wait until I've finished BF

@AnneLovesGilbert How long did it take you to recover (ie.not feel sore)?

It won't affect you at all with regard to breastfeeding. You'll be able to eat and drink. Take painkillers and hot salt mouthwash from day two.

Honestly, it’s not usually that bad. I had an impacted wisdom tooth out when I was 22. Yes, a bit sore when the anaesthetic wore off but nothing paracetamol couldn’t deal with. I was out clubbing the following night! You only ever hear the horror stories.

I had an emergency wisdom tooth removal when EBF (and bottle refusing)DD was 3 months old. It wasn't ideal as I was in pain and felt like crap, but it was fine. Worst bit for me was not being able to have co codamol for the pain, just had to make sure I took alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen religiously

I was still bf'ing my daughter when I had mine out (I was sedated as it was impacted and on a nerve) - Other than looking a little bit like id been punched in the face and having to eat mostly smoothies and ice cream, it didnt affect me too much. It certainly didnt stop me from feeding. If you've managed to feed after child birth trust me you will be absolutely fine :) x
