Lansoprazole

I have a slight hernia which means stomach acid finds its way back up my esophagus and has caused ulcers giving me pain and leaving me being sick for hours.
I have had endoscopies. I have now been prescribed and am taking this drug which it has alleviated the symptoms allowing me to live a normal life, but - I do not sleep well now. I am in constant pain in bed at night with my legs since starting on the Lanzo and..

I am as stiff as a board in the morning when I get up. I have pains in my lower back and hips - particularly my left hip and pain in my knees and lower legs.
I feel like a cripple. If I go out in my car I have to stand and work my joints at the door before moving. It is horrible.
My son says it is the Lanzo causing all of this. I have read there is a risk of fractures because of constant taking of this drug.

Can I just say that I am otherwise healthy and have been fit and healthy all of my life. I am a keen walker and gardener. I went to London with my grandson in August and walked for miles but had to take Panadol in order to stop the pain.

Has anyone got a similar story to tell and has anyone found an alternative to Lanzo. I am at the stage where I will try almost anything and prefer to not take this drug any more. I know I have to but wish there was something natural I could take instead
Thank you

Bump. I now have an appointment with my doctor today to discuss this. Would have liked a few comments but perhaps nobody on MN has ever had a hernia?

I was on this for a short while but it gave me skin rashes. I am also very achy and stiff....hmmmmm..

There are other medicines which do the same job, OP. Omazaprole? Ask your GP for a change.

Interesting. I'm on it & I have severe knee pain - but that predates taking Lanzo & I have no other joint problems.

I'm taking this for largely the same reason. I've not had any of the side effects mentioned but I am concerned about the side effects profile. The problem with this group of drugs is that when you try to stop taking them you tend to get rebound reflux that can be quite severe. Im currently trying to cut them down slowly. I've found that Peptac liquid is most helpful for the breakthrough reflux - you need to ask for it from a pharmacy and it costs 3-4 quid for a decent size bottle

It's because of the reflux that I saw the doctor initially. I saw her yesterday and told her what was happening. She did not agree or disagree with me. She said if I think the drug is casing these problems I don't have to take it.
I told her I feel like my bones will break. She frowned.
She gave me a sheet which recommends cutting down my intake of alcohol. I hardly drink. Don't eat spicy foods. I don't anyway. Cut down on caffeine. I drink tea.
I can go on a lower dose. I can try other meds. I can get surgery for the hernia but I will have to wait a year before I even see a consultant.
I feel like I am hitting a brick wall here but I am going to try and manage without the drug and see if the pain stops. In the meantime I am sorting out a diet that stops the stomach from creating excess acid.

Hey OP I know this is an old post but just did a search for anyone that has been taking this medication. how did the change of diet work for you. I've been taking it for about 6 weeks now and although it works for heartburn I don't want to take it long term. I do need to lose a few stone so am hoping that will help me 🙂
