Lately I've been going through some health issues. About 8 weeks ago I started taking the mini pill to treat period issues, then 4 weeks ago increased my antidepressant dosage (citalopram 20mg up to 30mg)

I started feeling really sleepy at work, noticed I was yawning constantly through the day, almost feeling a bit drunk at times. GP did blood tests and discovered I'm iron deficient, ferretin level of 10 but not yet anaemic. Has put me on iron tablets and I've been taking them for 4 days so far. The low iron is because the mini pill made me have 6 weeks of bleeding!

But the sleepy/drunk feeling keeps happening. Over the weekend I felt like I was drugged, I slept 14 hours one day. My head feels heavy like it's full of cotton wool.

I do have bad anxiety, but I've had it for years and never had this as a symptom. I thought it might be my increased antidepressant, but surely that would get better over time not worse?

Can iron deficiency make you feel like this? I've heard of fatigue, but this is more like I've taken sleeping tablets.

Any advice/similar stories? I will of course be returning to the GP in the next couple of weeks to discuss it, but in the meantime?

Are you having enough to drink during the day? Could be you're getting dehydrated.

Also - if you haven't already, please make an apt to speak with your gp about this. They ought to be able to help much more than any of us!

No it's not dehydration. I'm drinking plenty, and same amount as usual. I'm also getting enough sleep, and I don't drink alcohol.

I did put in my original post I will be going back to GP, soon but posted here to see if anyone has similar experiences of increasing antidepressants, or iron deficiency symptoms.

Oh I missed that.

It could be your anti depressant, yes. Did it start happening when you increased the dose?
