Are these symptoms connected or are there 2 different issues going on here?

A week or so ago I had a day or two of really bad vertigo. I've never had it before, saw the GP who prescribed some meds to treat the nausea and dizziness but I only took them for a day and a half as it got quite a lot better. Since then I've had a few spells where it seemed to get a bit worse again but nowhere near as bad as before.

Symptom No.2 ....I've had a nasty bitter taste in my mouth for the last couple of days. I sensed it a bit last week but it was quite subtle then, now it's just there all day and makes everything taste horrible particularly tea and coffee.

I can't pinpoint anything that may have triggered either the vertigo or the bitter taste

Are these things related?

First things first, are you female and could you be pregnant?

Female and definitely NOT pregnant! (mid 50s, menopause etc)

Indeed. Also covid can do all of the above.

junebirthdaygirl · 10/10/2022 19:22

I was thinking Covid too.

NormalForNuneaton · 10/10/2022 19:23

I've not had Covid recently , only time was back in January/February. I still test if I have any Covid-like symptoms because of where I work so pretty sure I've not had it again.

The bitter taste is a bit like "pine nut mouth" which I had years ago but I've not had pine nuts recently

Did the GP say to only take the meds if you are hav8ng symptoms or was it a course for a specific number of days?

Dovana · 10/10/2022 19:27

Inner ear or sinuses infection? My mum had a combination of these a while ago. Dizziness and bitter taste at the back of her throat. Lasted on and off for weeks, meds didn’t really help, then just disappeared on its own.

Carrotzen · 10/10/2022 19:27

Have you done a covid test? Covid gave me vertigo and everything tasted really bitter anz gross

Failing that I suppose could be any virus

Carrotzen · 10/10/2022 19:28

Also yes sinus infection perhaps?

The tablets were as and when needed to ease symptoms

If it were an inner ear infection would I not have other symptoms like pain or discomfort, a temperature or just generally feel under the weather?

I did a Covid test when I had the vertigo (before I went to the doctors) which was negative

I've come back to the thread to update and see if anyone has any ideas....

The bitter taste has virtually gone although some things seem to still not taste right, mainly coffee and tea. Covid test this morning was negative.

However, the dizziness is still coming back every now and again. For example I was just cleaning and the action of looking up and down (hoovering cobwebs from a ceiling) has really made me feel dizzy and nauseous.

One thing I have noticed is that think the dizziness/nausea might be happening when I'm a bit hungry/before meals so I'm wondering if it's a blood sugar thing??

I get a bad taste in my mouth when I have acid reflux.. could it be that? It can also cause nausea, especially when your stomach is empty. I don't think acid reflux would cause dizziness though. Hmmm.

tobee · 15/10/2022 16:03

Side effects of the meds? Just a thought

NormalForNuneaton · 15/10/2022 21:31

The bitter taste has all but gone, it's mainly dizziness and nausea now so I don't think it's acid reflux @Icantsee25

@tobee I only took the meds for less than 2 days so don't think they were responsible (although rather bizarrely the first side effects listed was dizziness and nausea ....when they're commonly prescribed to treat dizziness and nausea 🤔
