Can anyone recommend a chair for people with sciatica?

Hi all

Sometimes my sciatica pain feels much better but getting off a chair makes me hobble again.

This is from either a dining room chair, or a sofa. I try to make both supportive.

Has anyone got any wonder chairs which help rather than hinder recovery?😀

Have you tried a sciatica cushion? Put it into Amazon and many options will avail themselves. Sorry can't link it. They have a cut out for the coccyx to alleviate pressure .

For me personally I find if my knees are slightly higher than my hips it is better so a foot rest is better too

Others find the opposite and a wedge cushion is better.

Have a look at sciatic flossing too.

Thank you MrsJimHopper, I will have a look at all that too. I have got a wedge cushion for my dining room chair but find that it doesn't really help.

I will look at your other suggestions though.😀

I found the wedge made it worse. I find I get relief when I lean forward so the wedge opposed that and imagine my spine compressing.

Yeah the wedge is weird isn't it? After your suggestion I went on Amazon and have bought one of those cushions with a gap where the coccycx goes and it seems ok.

I was in John Lewis the other day and they had a lovely office chair that you could adjust to all sorts of personal requirements. Trouble is, it was about £1600 😂.

£1600! Insane! Unless it permanently fixed my back.

Glad you are trying a cushion hope it is helpful. It's very strange. I find mine best if I have the affected side foot on a rest so my knee is raised and I often do the ironing like this with foot I stool!

A kneeling chair for using the computer

The kneeling chair looks interesting. I am sure it doesn't in real life but it looks like a lot of pressure goes on your knees!

It would be good to go and try some of these contraptions in real life.

Funnily enough there's no knee pressure. You just seem to balance.
