problems with wisdom teeth aged 50??

My wisdom teeth never came through properly. I do have them, they have just not erupted, according to the GP. They grumbled and hurt quite a lot when I was about 21.

I am now 50, menopausal and having a lot of pain in the jaw on one side in the wisdom teeth area - can wisdom teeth cause issues after so long behaving themselves?

Yes. Mine have a little go at erupting every so often and I'm 52!

Urgh, so painful. Assume no point in seeing dentist?

Yes. I'm 49. One came through late so I had it out at 40 and one that came through late also, I had to have out last year. It had a cavity. Both were top wisdoms.

My other 2 never came through.

My DH had one extracted aged 50ish 😃

I’m 49 and am starting to have issues with my right, upper wisdom tooth. It keeps bleeding and hurts. Dentists says it’s trying to come through but hasn’t got the room to move.

It's so painful, woke me up in the night last night and nothing usually wakes me at all, ever!

Going to try to get a dentist appointment this week coming and see what they suggest. Best case scenario it's an infection or something and it's just antibiotics to resolve it. Would rather not go through a painful extraction.

@FamilyTreeBuilder extraction is honestly the best bet if an impacted wisdom tooth is causing problems. I've had recurrent problems with 3 of my wisdom teeth and thankfully they have now been removed so there's only one of the little buggers left now. If the last one ever attempts to make an appearance I'm going to insist on extraction as the pain the other 3 caused me along with far too many rounds of failed antibiotics ruining my digestive system was absolutely awful.

I'm not saying extraction is pleasant but in my case it was definitely preferable. The relief once they were gone was immense.

Glad I found this thread . Wisdom tooth decided to make a break through last week! I’m 54 . The other three were taken out in my 20s so it’s been a shock. Let’s see what the dentist says tomorrow . Now it’s through, it’s much less pain and all the swelling has gone down.
