Can watery stool be tested if it's just clear water? (Cryptosporidium)

Nursery has a case of Cryptosporidium and DS3 has just started with symptoms. He's had frequent urgent need for the toilet all morning but what's coming out of his back passage is clear water with a little bit of mucus absolutely no colour to it just see through.

I rang 111 and said he isn't really very poorly and seems alright but I just wanted to tell them because it could signal an outbreak and nursery have said it's a reportable disease. They've booked him in to see a doctor later today.

They didn't ask for a stool sample but afterwards I thought it may be useful,I know they can't diagnose Cryptosporidium without seeing the parasite in samples. I have a little jar I can sterilise but is it really any use if all I'm collecting is water? Surely they would need something a bit thicker to test?!
