Worth seeing dentist for tonsil problems?

Would it be worth going for a dental checkup and mentioning a tonsil issue? (Painless suddenly very enlarged or swollen tonsil only on one side) Would a dentist be able to refer to me to the right place? I have no idea where to go with this since it's not possible to see my GP and the nurse practitioners weren't able to help beyond suggesting the cause wasn't infection

Yep - I struggled with septic tonsillitis through my late teens. Changed dentist when I went away to uni at 18 and mentioned it after the GP suggested it. X-ray showed four impacted wisdom teeth - had them whipped out under a general and tonsils have been fine ever since.
