Are these tattoos from during surgery? If so, why?

6 months ago I had to have surgery on my wrist following multiple fractures after a fall from height
I had 3 k-wires inserted (removed after 8 weeks).
The scar on the side of my wrist (2nd pic) looks as expected. Pinky/silvery. However the 3 on top of my wrist are blue and the consultant I'm seeing has now said "looks like you were maybe tattooed for some reason".
Of the 3 dots, wires were in 2 of them but not the 3rd. I'm so confused and a bit pissed off that I'll likely be marked forever.
I have a civil claim going on due to the nature of my accident which I know I can add the cosmetic stuff too, but still annoying.

Is it standard to tattoo patients?

They look more like scars than tattoos to me. They do sometimes tattoo to help with surgery but more for lining up lasers etc rather than inserting wires.

Have never seen them intentionally tattoo to insert k-wires but perhaps they marked the skin with a sterile pen to plot where they were inserting the wires and the ink inadvertently tracked into the hole causing the mark? Probably the only way you’ll find out is to ask the surgeon that did it.
