Mucus when pooping?

Sorry for the TMI question... Just trying to work out if this is worth the GP.

A few times lately there's been a lot of mucus when I wipe after a poo. The poo itself seems pretty normal?! Not loose, not diarrhoea, not painfully hard. But when I've wiped there's been a LOT of goopy mucus, this time streaked dark (genuinely not sure if dark blood or stool waste)... Really clotty and globby.

It's not every time, and the times I've noticed (enough to feel vaguely worried about it) I've felt quite gassy and bloated that day too.

Does that sound worthy of a non urgent GP trip? 😬

I would book an appointment with a GP. Try not to worry but I believe that is something you should get checked x

Are you sure it's from your anus and not from your vagina, especially common when you're straining for a poo

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 02/10/2022 21:49

Could be coeliac, or haemmorhoids. Worth getting checked.

GG1986 · 02/10/2022 22:07

I would say it's worth a gp visit as it's a change in your normal bowel habits. Could be IBS, IBD symptoms so worth getting checked, they may want to get a stool sample to check for inflammation.

Most likely nothing, but you need to get any change in bowel movements checked out. Make an appointment with a GP, they'll probably want a sample.

Go to the GP. I have IBD and this was my first symptom, I ignored it until eventually every time I went to the toilet it became just blood or mucus. Wish I’d got it sorted a lot sooner. They will run a blood test and take a stool sample and that should give a good indication of where to go next.

Definitely go to the GP, they may arrange a colonoscopy. My symptoms started like this and I was eventually diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.

Gp definitely. X

Hey what was our one I done to Rd hsve slimy mucus too

Pigeonqueen · 13/07/2024 21:46

I have this a lot and I’ve had all the various tests you could have - colonoscopies, endoscopy, FIT tests - all normal and GP has put it down to ibs, so don’t panic but definitely get the tests done.

Just wanted to see whether you got any diagnosis or if things got better @shortpeopleproblems ?
