Child with very bad breath

Can anyone help suggest reasons my DS breath smells so bad?

For context, he is 5. His teeth are in perfect condition. He brushes twice a day and eats a normal mixed diet. He’s recently seen the dentist and confirmed no issues. He has all baby teeth bar one adult one just coming through.

He has glue ear, just adding in case it’s related!

His breath is AWFUL. He brushes his teeth and within an hour or so the bad smell is back It’s been going on for ages now, maybe a year? I am wondering if the glue ear is connected as it’s probably been the same time since he was first having hearing problems. I feel so bad for him in case a friend says something, what can I do?!

Unfortunately it can be linked (as they are all linked up). I would try Yakult just in case if it’s something in his tummy that can cause issues too, poor love ent issues are horrid

My DC breath would smell when they had tonsillitis

Does he drink enough? It’s likely it’s connected with the glue ear, but will be exacerbated by not drinking water regularly.

So does
My little one's but only when he's hungry, eg. First thing in the morning or soon after playing some kind of sport.

Sinus problems can also cause bad breath, if he has glue ear I wonder if he’s susceptible to blocked sinuses too?

Tonsil stones

DS's breath always smells when he has a sore throat before he comes down with cold symptoms so could be the glue ear. Can you use a saline nasal spray?

PoppyBlunt · 30/09/2022 14:06

Is he a mouth breather? Ie sleeps with his mouth open?

Pea,stuck up his nose

Thanks everyone. I did think it may be connected to the glue ear. He’s having 6 monthly hearing checks but they say it’s not severe enough to act on beyond an Otovent. Don’t know how as he’s honestly deaf as a post.

I’ve just counted all the peas in my freezer and can confirm I’m not missing one so I’m ruling that out 🤭
