Do I look bloated?

For the past few months or more I feel constantly bloated and feel like my stomach looks huge. I've also got heartburn all the time and feel sick a lot.
The doctors think it could be an acid issue but I'm worried about it being ovarian cancer or something? Do I look bloated to you?
I've been Googling and now I've scared myself.

Hi. I wouldn’t be able to comment on your body without knowing your normal state. But, I was diagnosed with low grade ovarian cancer aged 36 a few months ago and my only real symptom was bloating. (I’ll show you below) Looking back I had had bowel changes and some indigestion for a while longer but you just don’t think these things could be serious!

Has your GP offered you a blood test for CA125 markers? That is really what you need so please do push for that, as ovarian cancer is often brushed off and misdiagnosed for a long time! It’s likely nothing but 10000% needs checking.

@AGreatUsername oh my god I'm so sorry to hear that, you barely look bloated at all! How did you feel in yourself, did you feel sick a lot or anything? How was it eventually diagnosed?

@curlywurlygirlie I felt fine! I’d had what I thought was a tummy bug which left me with 4 weeks of upset tummy and this bloat that wouldn’t go. I didn’t notice anything else at the time. The doctor was great and did the ca125 test which came back very high, I was then scanned under the 2 week pathway and 2 masses were found.

Looking back I’d probably had symptoms for a while but just not noticed or put them down to aging. I had been tired (but I was also anaemic), and my bowels probably hadn’t been right for months but only slightly not right. I had heartburn most nights for a few months, and I’d actually lost weight but the fluid in my abdomen had replaced it so my actual weight stayed the same.

I don’t look that bloated. But I felt it. It was very obvious to me, and it felt non-gassy, a bit like pregnancy where you can feel liquid under your ribs. The bloating without gas was really my only red flag that made me go!

Please do request the bloods from your GP, it’s more than likely nothing but 75% of OC cases are already advanced because it’s so vague.

That is similar to how I've been feeling. It's just a constant bloating that doesn't go away and heartburn every day. How are you doing now? x

Gosh this is very interesting in that none of this would have rung undue alarm bells for me. Really hope both of you are ok. To the OP I think hopefully nothing but do ask your GP for the CA125 test.

@curlywurlygirlie I had debulking surgery in June (a hysterectomy with added bits) and am now midway through chemotherapy. It’s not fun I can tell you, but I’m hopeful of a good run anyway. It’s been a really really grim few months but we have to adjust to the new normal now.

Wishing you well, and don’t be afraid to push the GP to act on this!

I look bloated - not brave enough to post a photo ! I think it's just middle age for me, I had an internal scan recently because of it with no findings. Follow it up if you are worried but depending on age it might just be normal.

Mercurial123 · 30/09/2022 15:28

I have IBS and am permanently bloated. My doctor says my stomach is like a drum.

Dalekjastninerels · 30/09/2022 15:28

This is how my stomach looks; maybe because I am apple shaped- but I also suffer from constipation a lot. It is never ever flat.

JustDanceAddict · 30/09/2022 15:45

Def ask for the bloods and internal scan. I had both a few months ago for different symptoms and all was fine but they found a polyp and fibroids I had no idea about! Polyp has been removed and fibroids are in situ still (they can also cause bloating).

Thanks everyone. I'm almost 34 and I have 2 children the youngest is a year. I did put it down to start with just to weight gain, but I'm actually less than I used to be but my stomach is bigger. I'm just so worried with this constant bloating, nausea and heartburn etc. I wonder if it's maybe IBS or bowel related.
I think I might just directly ask my GP if ovarian cancer would cross her mind and the likelihood of it being that.
Wishing you a speedy recovery @AGreatUsername I'm so pleased your doctor was on the ball x

Definitely ask outright OP. A doctor once told me it's vital to mention the illness you're worried about so they can reassure/test. Honestly try not to over worry but worth checking.

I had nausea with heartburn a few years ago. It was H Pylori bacterial infection.

curlywurlygirlie · 01/10/2022 17:36

They did test for h.pylori and it was negative. They thought possibly a stomach ulcer but I don't imagine would cause constant bloating? I'm so worried

Hi, did you ever get to the bottom of this? Sounds exactly like my symptoms and I'm freaking out slightly

AGreatUsername · 02/11/2022 11:57

@curlywurlygirlie have you requested a blood test and US?

Katie567 · 16/03/2024 08:57

@curlywurlygirlie sorry I know this post is old but I could have written your post word for word, just wondering if you ever got to the bottom of it? Thanks
