What does this term mean on medical notes?

I had my first smear two weeks ago. I have an app where I can see headings of test results but not the actual detail or result. On the app it says ‘hpv result’ ‘cervical cytology interpretation’ and then finally ‘patient management recommendation’.

Does anyone know what is meant by ‘patient management recommendation’? Does that mean they’ve found something or is that a general term?

Have you tried using the NHS app?

sarahc336 · 28/09/2022 21:44

It could be that you've tested positive for hpv which is a very common virus that most people at sone point will probably have but possibly no abnormal cells at the min. I guess really until you get your letter you won't really know op but hpv is really very common it's just linked to a normal cervical cells so that's why they test for it 🤷🏻‍♀️ x

Have you only written half of what is on there? They sound like headings rather than interpretation to me

teezletangler · 28/09/2022 21:46

I agree those are headings only. There's no info there to be interpreted.

That's why she asking - she can't see the interpretation on the app, only the headings, so she's asking if anyone knows what the interpretations of the headings could possibly say or mean.

ApolloandDaphne · 28/09/2022 21:53

If they are generic headings then I doubt it means anything.

@PinkButtercups it is the patient access app

Oh I see now. That will just be a general thing, I don't think it means they've found something.

The cytology result might be "negative for cervical dysplasia" and the patient mgmt recommendation would be "repeat smear in 3 years as per national screening protocol".

@teezletangler fab thankyou

I've had 2 HPV positive tests in last 2 years. Got my smear again next month. Fingers crossed this time (now I've had a baby) it will be negative.

prettyinpink23x · 28/09/2022 22:04

Thankyou! She did say it would be 2 weeks for the letter but I haven’t had anything yet
