Please help - really spotty bottom (me!)

Have name changed due to the shame but I really need some advice.

For about 5 months now I have had a really spotty bottom. Not little pimples, but deep sore spots on my bum cheeks (in an area about 2 inches either side of the bum cleft). They spots themselves are very deep and sometimes so sore I can barely sit down. And they are huge - about the circumference of the top of my middle finger. When they eventually go away, they leave small purple scars, so my bottom is a real unsightly mess at the moment.

I have no idea what is causing them. My bottom isn't too lage (size 12) and it is always clean and dry. I have tried various spot creams and even sudocrem but nothing is making them go away.

Do you MNetters have any miracle advice on how to clear them up? I just can't go to the doctor - the shame would be too much! (And I don't think it is worth bothering the doctor about anyway.

oh god poor you

do they seem infected? ie do they have pus in them

chopchopbusybusy · 25/01/2008 09:22

I can't really help with what they are or how to clear them up, but just wanted to say that I do think it's worth bothering the GP about.

Spottybot · 25/01/2008 09:24

NP, they don't seem infected per se. Sometimes they are squeezable - although that hurts like hell - but it is just usual spot contents in them. Nothing sinister.

try washing your knickers in a really mild detergent like surcare and don't use any fabric softner. you skin could have become over sensitive to your current stuff.

southeastastra · 25/01/2008 09:24

lol at spottybot. are you wearing more polyester than usual?

i think you have a case of mumsnet arse

nailpolish · 25/01/2008 09:27

i think you should go to the dr

seriously i do

if this was on your face youd be hammering the gp's door down wouldnt you

a short course of antibiotics may be required

I'm not wearing polyester at all - all my underwear is cotton or silk.

I don't know if it could be the washing powder. I use gentle stuff anyway due to DD and no softener, but I will try out your suggestion too Furball.

Really don;t want to go to doctor, but that may be the only option?

you could talk to your local pharmacist first, he could recommend something possibly

if you do go to dr, write down what you are going to say before you go in. that way you dont end up blurting out "ive got spots on my arse!"

report back

If you think your hygiene is impeccable, then yes, you should consult your doctor and will probably need antibiotics.

Alternatively you could consult a private dermatologist - try a BUPA hospital.

Spottybot · 25/01/2008 10:12

OK - I have bitten the bullet. Am seeing the doctor on Monday morning.

NP, I shall report back on the full extent of my shame!!

could be impetigo -def see doctor

Flllightattendant · 25/01/2008 10:19

It sounds like acne of the bum. Similar to what you get on your face, but well, elsewhere.
as with the face variety you may benefit from some ABs to help it clear up. And STOP SQUEEZING them, for goodness sake! It will just spread the infection under the skin.

Good luck!!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/01/2008 10:23

Have you tried exfoliating your bum? It might make a difference removing the old dead skin?

Spottybot · 28/01/2008 12:00

Thanks to all of those that gave me the kick up the butt [ha ha] to see the doctor.
She has given me a course of antibiotics for skin infections as she says it is really nasty.

And to add to my shame she commented on the haemmorhoids that I have. I have had them since being preg a couple of years ago, and thought that they were osmthing I just have to put up with (like stretch marks). But apparently not, and she has referred me to a rectal clinic .

So my bum is going to have a complete makeover!! With the spots and piles gone maybe I could apply to be a bottom double for movie actresses. Hee hee.
