Any orthodontists around? Do I need to worry about changes to face shape after extraction for braces?

My child has been recommended to have 4 molars out. I keep reading online that extractions should be avoided and that it results in a concave face and poor breathing etc can anyone shed light?

Chances are if they’ve been asked to have teeth removed their teeth are very crowded anyway! Some mouths just aren’t big enough for 28/32 teeth… I had six extractions for ortho as a child/teenager and definitely don’t have a concave face

I had 4 extractions for overcrowding 30 years ago, no change to my face! My DS also had extractions and he now has a beautiful smile.

Thanks that reassuring it’s so worrying trying to work out what is the best plan. It feels like such a big decision

Poor breathing?

I had loads taken out as a child, don't know if it changed my face shape but it's not caused any issues with my breathing!!!

4 teeth out isn’t going to change your face or make it concave. It’s not going to affect breathing. All my DC had tooth extractions for braces due to overcrowding. They look like normal young adults, only with perfect smiles and teeth.

I shopped around untiI I found a dentist who would do orthodontics without extractions - and now my mouth is horribly crowded and it distorts the front lip and causes a speech issue. Wish I’d had extractions ☹️
