Insomnia and Covid

I’m posting this thread in general health rather than Covid because Covid is really the side issue here. But since getting Covid more than three weeks ago (from which I’ve largely recovered) , I seem to be suffering with insomnia every single night. Sometimes I’m able to get off to sleep ok but I’m waking up maybe an hour or two later and then drifting in and out of sleep for the rest of the night. Has this happened to anyone else and if so how long has it lasted and what have you done about it?

I’m reluctant to take medication because I have glaucoma with high eye pressure in my left eye and some medication can interfere with that. On the other hand insomnia can also lead to high eye pressure, so I need to resolve this. I’ve already had a trabeculectomy in my right eye and it would not be great if I had to have one in the other as well.

I’ve tried deep breathing, which sometimes helps me get back to sleep, but I’m still waking up again a bit later. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks Mumsnetters ☺️

Insomnia is a symptom of Long Covid (or post Covid syndrome). I had it for about a year or so after I had Covid. Mainly gone now. It was awful, I used to lie there till around 6 in the morning trying to nod off! CBD oil helped me as it eased the anxiety. It's likely caused by an autonomic nervous system disregulation following Covid. It will resolve eventually particularly if you have no other LC symptoms.
