Period or not?

Does one day of spotting (no sanitary products needed) count as a period for menopause purposes? For context I went 8 months, had two periods a month apart, then went 11 months with no periods, then had this one day of spotting, then another ten months before more bleeding. I've now been bleeding for a month, continuous spotting for 3 weeks, then a week of heavy bleeding so far. I had assumed the one day of spotting was not a period so I was therefore menopausal - now I'm wondering if I am still perimenopausal. I have a hospital appointment soon and am wondering whether I should be worried or not?

I went 11 months without a period (age 50) and then had some light spotting and was packed off for a scan to check the womb lining, in case it was thickening ( cancer risk). It's probably nothing but I would get it checked.

They also checked for other causes of bleeding such as vaginal atrophy etc. Can also be hormonal fluctuations so don't stress but get a check.

Thanks. Have got a check this week but just fretting that I'm wasting NHS time. By the sounds of it they would have checked me anyway.

I don't think you are wasting NHS time at all. You are looking after your health. 🌷
