DS had a high temp on monday, GP wouldnt see him so took him to A&E. turns out he has tonsillitis again. Gave us antibiotics, calpol & nurofen but his temp still creeps up to the 40's when he is due for more meds during the day and wakes up during hte night with it up to 41.5c.
he hasnt really eaten since sunday, but he is drinking gallons.

I hate seeing him like this and the docs wont help.

He has been spiking to 40s for 4 days now, and not eaten properly since Sunday? How old is he?

jodie1984 · 24/01/2008 11:31

Any rash headache or confusion? Especially rash on chest or face, but can be anywhere? If so go back to A&E straight away and shout until they see him.

If no rash, call GP again and be assertive about being seen. If GP refuses to see your DS request contact details to make a complaint against the GP. They should see toddler with temp which has been that high for that long if there's still no improvement. And take DS to A&E if GP really won't see him. Make sure on the phone you quote exact temp readings and length of time it's been going on. Be assertive, but not aggressive and don't give in.

In meantime are you tepid sponging every hour or so to keep temp down as the paracetamol dose fades?

'now'?

Jodie1984 was OP, I was just giving advice... Hoping she is at GPs!

jodie1984 · 24/01/2008 15:37

I took him to gp's after a lot and i mean a lot of insisting, just for them to tell me to let the antibiotics do their job!

I've had to come to work, he is with childminder and is ok at the minute. Its just in the night which is the worst.

If he has not made a dramatic improvment by the time i get home I will ring the emergency gp at the hosptial, it cant be good for him being so hot all the time.
