Severe pain - Sinus

whatever1980 · 16/09/2022 19:52

I've had severe pain and blocked sinus' now for about 6 months.

Been to ear nose and throat consultant in hospital who checked nose and said no polyps just blocked sinus.

Gave me steroids which took religiously but they haven't cleared anything.

Sinus' still blocked and just been given co-codamol by doctor.

The pain is there everyday like a migraine.

Anyone had this and found a solution please?

I feel like going to A&E tonight (I won't) pain has gotten that bad and I have so many bother ailments that I'm used to being in pain but this has taken its toll

I got a prescription for naproxen. It was the only thing that touched it pain relief wise

Thanks @NancyVicious I'll check it out

I don't know if this is a recurrent migraine or what

I had sinusitis last Xmas and it lasted for over 3 months, nothing I took made any difference until I finally went back to the GP and was given antibiotics. I could feel it clearing up almost immediately. Despite having been told it was a virus, the ABs worked. I wish I'd gone back sooner.

Does it affect your hearing OP? Of it does, ask for a referral to ENT. (My chronic sinusitis led to glue ear and then grommets.)
For the record, sinus pain is pretty shitty!
There are a couple of things you could try:
The nasal balloons that help to relieve sinus pressure.
A sinus rinse. Neil med is one of the best-known and was recommended to DC1 who had an autoimmune disease that affected their sinuses amongst other things.
If there is an infection (your GP should have asked for a sample of your mucous to check for this), then you may need a long course of antibiotics to clear it.

Thanks @whattodoforthebest2 and @vipersnest1 no sample of mucus has been taken sounds like an idea

I've been on antibiotics for water infections I get a lot but they didn't help maybe different antibiotics are needed for sinus infection (hoping upon hope). I do tend to pick up infections really easily
