Could I have cancer? Unintentional weight loss, night sweats. Dr asked if I have any lumps?

I’m 38 weeks pregnant and I’m loosing weight fairly rapidly which my midwife said should not be happening. Iv lost on the scales 17lbs in 8 weeks. The amount iv actually lost can’t be worked out due to having a baby growing inside rapidly, extra blood, amniotic fluid, placenta, which would be gaining weight. So it’s complicated so my weight loss could be much more. For around the 8 weeks iv also been suffering terrible night sweats even afternoon naps on the sofa I wake up soaking wet! I visited my gp yesterday and he asked about my eating which I’m eating a fair amount I’m heavily pregnant and hungry, he asked if I have noticed any lumps or bumps in my neck, breast, groin, lymph nodes. I haven’t checked throughly but I plan on doing so when I have a shower later but I can’t say iv noticed anything like that. So he’s ran a battery of blood tests today and I’m so scared at what he’s looking for. I’m only in my 20s and have young children and pregnant. In my last pregnancies I didn’t loose weight I gained and gained then lost weight afterwards when trying too! This time I’m not trying at all and it’s still just keeps coming off. I’m so scared. The dr also asked if there is any cancers in my family, I said there was for some old uncles but they were smoking related. I’m just so worried!! What else could cause my symptoms of rapid weight loss and night sweats?

Not appropriate to try to diagnose you over the internet, but hormones being what they are, it might be that your thyroid is out of whack.

@TheOtherHotstepper my mum has over active thyroid, she’s on medication for that. Could it be genetic and I have it too?

I don't see why not, but hopefully there's a thyroid test in with all the others.

Over active thyroid was my first thought too op.

I thought I was having night sweats when pregnant. It turned out it was milk! And I had oversupply when DD arrived.

I lost weight rapidly and couldn't understand why I sweated and was so thirsty. My mum who'd had an overactive thyroid, recognised the symptoms and sent me to GP who confirmed it.

BlueBunny23 · 19/09/2022 11:55

@Stichintimesavesstapling It’s not milk my neck is soaking and my hair stuck to me my top where my nipples are is dry. My legs and arms also soaking and I woke up this morning to feel sweat running down my body.

@stepfordwifey I hope this is all it is. Drs is closed today but hopefully tomorrow I get some answers
