I have been referred for further investigations as I found a lump in my armpit, going for my first mammogram at 60 and I'm scared. I haven't had one before and that's because I have a hospital phobia which I'll have to get over pretty quickly. I know I've been stupid
I get married on Wednesday and we go on honeymoon the week after and I can't stop thinking morbid thoughts and it's spoiling a happy time.
I'm devastated also because I have to put it on hold for two weeks until we get back.
On top of this I have so much to do for they wedding and I can't concentrate.

So, I had my appointment today, I'm pleased to say that everything is fine. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound under my arm. The mammogram was so straightforward, slightly uncomfortable but not painful so I won't hesitate next time. I apologized profusely to the consultant, I felt so bad. The ultrasound I was astounded when she said she couldn't find anything and that it was the end of a muscle. I trust her judgement and hopefully that's that.
Such a huge relief, hopefully I'll get a decent night's sleep now.
But...I just wanted to thank you all for your kindness and support on getting me through this stressful time, I do regret it wasn't sorted until after my wedding and honeymoon but not much I could do about that.
Thank you all so much to everyone that took time to post, I do appreciate x

So glad to hear this op. You can rest easy now. I think so many times there are so many lumps and bumps in our breasts and armpits that are normal it's so difficult to work out what isn't. I've thought prominent parts of my rib cage were sinister before 🙄.

Sounds like you had a lovely wedding day anyway ☺️

I know myself how hard it is not to panic but you really must try. The vast, vast majority of lumps turn out to be harmless. The first time I found one I had a complete breakdown but it was an infected gland, easily sorted with antibiotics. Years later they found another at my screening mammogram and I got sent to hospital. Absolutely terrified again, but it turned out to be fluid which they dealt with there and then. They told me it is extremely common for women my age (50s) to get this due to hormone changes

Missed your update. Glad it went well and well done for getting over your fear.
