I have had acne mainly around my jaw since having ds 18 months ago. To cut a long long story short i have been on all the anti biotics from doc, even came off pill and saw a dermatologist, nothing has helped me.

I have bupa though dh work. Should i see an endrocoronogist (sp?) person who specialises in hormones or go down the alternative route? I am DESPERATE for help and really really need your help/experiences of what has worked for you when anti biotics havnt helped

thanks for your reply! Is that why you went to acupunctuirst for your skin? I was considering it... can they 'tell' if there is anything underlying?

Hi Mad4mybabay,

I have always had acne unfortunetly. When i was 17 i was put on roaccutane. Which cleared up my skin. When i got pregnant is returned so the doc prescribed as antibiotic to apply to the skin which is pregnancy safe. Following that i went on to Dianette, which i a contraception pill and helps with acne too

Is there any chance you could have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)? - its'very common and acne's one of the symtoms

ash80, i wouldnt go on roaccutane due to side effects, plus we may ttc later in the year so dont want to run risks etc

You can take the course for 6 months, following that wait for a few months and then you can ttc. Only if it bothers you that much. Mine was quite severe, i went on roactuane for 6 months. If nothing else the dermatologist could prescribe you a gel tp apply called 'isotrin' i think, its a retin A based cream. You can't use if ttc though. good luck

it does bother me alot hence this thread ash but another reason i dont want to go on it is the side effects of mental health. Not long ago came off anti d's so dont want to put anything in the way that may cause relapse of it and/or make it worse! I asked on here last week about it and everyone said they had side effects particularly mental health. Im glad it worked for you though ash

It worked when i was eighteen , but since having my ds it came back, not as severe though. But my dermatologist said that i should wait till im done having kids for while before going on it. So as im ttc now, i will have to wait for a year or so.
There's lots of stuff that can help you though, its just that you have to apply it nightly etc.... i would go see a private dermatologst if you can, and get a second opinion.

mad4mybaby · 22/01/2008 20:56

it was a private one through bupa. I just dont know what to do anymore. No body out there seems to want to help me, just seem to keep passing the buck and i know there are more important things to be worrying about but it really gets me down
