Ovarian Cyst Experience?

Hi everyone,

Sorry for any TMI!

Been struggling with some pelvic pain for a few months now - I had a scan about a year ago which showed a cyst on my right ovary about 4cm. They said to leave it but keep an eye on it, when I started having the pains again I booked in for another scan and the cyst is now about 7cm.

The doctor thinks it's benign (touch wood) - he thinks it's a dermoid cyst. I had some blood tests today to check for any abnormalities so am now ofc bricking it waiting for the results. I've also got an MRI scan referral. He thinks I'll need an operation to remove it and I might lose that ovary.

Has anyone else been through this and have any words of wisdom to share? Or just a handhold? Feeling quite scared and vulnerable, I'm in my early twenties so I feel quite young to have all this going on but I suppose that's life 😅

I had a 28 x 20 x 19cm dermoid cyst removed - it weighed 22lbs!! I never knew about it until one day when I was in a lot of pain and assumed it was appendicitis.

There are a few ways of removal when one is is the size of yours. Mine had to be done with open surgery and they reconstructed my ovary. I’m now pregnant so it didn’t cause any issues.

I had an ovarian cyst 'removed' by laparoscopy.
Unfortunately it burst during the procedure but it seems it was just a benign cyst.
Try not to worry too much ( easier said than done, I know). If the doctor thinks it's benign try not to allow your mind to run away with other alternatives.

I also had a large (grapefruit size) cyst removed by laparoscopy, along with the ovary and tube. (which obviously left one healthy ovary still working). Mine was a benign cyst also and the consultant was not overly concerned - even when the CA125 blood test came back elevated. This test can be elevated simply because of the cyst (any benign cyst) so don't panic if it does come back higher than normal. Handhold from me as it is really scary.

I have an 8cm one ,I've had some post menopausal bleeding so was on the 2 week pathway to get it checked. Now waiting for an appt with gynae.

I feel awful with it so really hoping they take it out asap . Not had blood results yet.
