Very painful back of ankle - seek treatment or just RICE?

Yesterday even when lying on the sofa watching TV my ankle kind of twinged and then went increasingly painful. It has happened before and I just move it about and there is a painful popping sensation (catch your breathe painful) and then it settles down.

This time, no popping and I can’t fully move it. I can point my toes ok (bit sore at full point) but can’t flex it up to right angle. I can hobble around keeping the ankle greater than 90degrees but it is sore!

No redness or swelling and it isn’t hot and only slightly tender to touch around the Achilles tendon. The tendon feels very taut, even with a relaxed foot.

So my question is do I continue to RICE, try and see gp or do I need to go elsewhere? Anyone had experience of ankle pain that can help?
