Is it the drinking stuff or rubbing on stuff?
I got a bottle of the drinking stuff for my skin - but didn't see any results.

What is wrong with his joints? afaik it is great for skin conditions and for internal tummy stuff but I am not sure re anything else.

LittleB · 22/01/2008 12:17

I use it,I drink it for my IBS and use the gel for prickly heat rash on my arms, it does sooth them (both), but I pay much less than that for the gel, I've got mine from boots or body shop. I'm also nurturing a small aloe vera plant so I can use the sap directly from the plant, which works well too, but I've never heard of it being used for joints.

he has some pain, intermittent, from a bad accident years ago. Has been recommended by friend, who uses it herself for same.

forever living stuff is very good because when its harvested its done by hand and they don't boil it they just stabalize it shop bought stuff is rubbish imo

cmotdibbler · 22/01/2008 14:55

Great ime for skin conditions, but never heard of it for joints.
DH has a lot of trouble with his knees, and finds taking Glucosamine and Chondritin at high strength really helps with the swelling and pain.

peatbogfaerie · 22/01/2008 15:40

ah, bogie, that's the stuff recommended, so perhaps that's why it's so expensive.

cmd, yes he already takes strong gluco - tho not chondritin, will look it up. Also has prescribed stuff when it's really bad, but doesn't want to increase that.

Is it definitely Aloe vera, and not arnica gel that they've recommended, peatbogfaerie? I've seen arnica recommended for arthritic joint pain (though obviously I don't know if that's what your DH has), but not aloe vera.

JackieNo · 22/01/2008 15:44

Xpost kerrymum.

scatterbrain · 22/01/2008 15:47

I have Arnica gel and Aloe Vera gel from Simply Beautiful Cosmetics which QVC sell - they do smallish bottles so you can try it out - and it is way cheaper than you have quoted.

The Arnica is magic on bruises and bumps - reduces swelling and bruising noticeably and the Aloe get is fab for inflamed skin - rashes, sunburn, prickly heat, itchiness etc.

I think you need Arnica rather than Aloe - have a look at the QVC website.

scatterbrain · 22/01/2008 15:48

And - they do an Arnica bath gel that I hear is excellent for soaking bad backs, achey joints etc.

Flier · 22/01/2008 15:49

my df swears by aloe vera gel for his joints.

Sunshinemummy · 22/01/2008 15:51

Love Aloe Vera gel but use it for skin problems and it doesn't cost anywhere near £25 a bottle. I get it from Holland & Barrett's website or Waitrose. V. good on nappy rash, burns, spots etc. etc.

peatbogfaerie · 22/01/2008 15:51

Thanks everyone. The arnica bath gel sounds good. And I will double-check with friend who is taking aloe gel (the stabilised - and thus expensive - stuff). Does sound as if either she or I have got it wrong.

this is the make my df uses.

I think that you need the chondritin with the glucosamine to get the best effect - DH buys his from Holland and Barratt when they have the half price offer on.

peatbogfaerie · 22/01/2008 16:32

ooh, late entry from Flier - thanks for link.
