Septoplasty after effects

Hi first time posting!

Hubby had a septoplasty and his turbinates(?) trimmed on Wednesday under GA.

He’s really struggling bless him. still bleeding intermittently. Spoke to consultant today who said to phone the ward if the bleeding continues, but I think he’ll end up stuck there the whole weekend if he goes now.

Can’t eat a thing, his throat is really sore from the intubation I think and he says his whole head is hurting. I’ve never seen him this poorly.

He’s taken the 30mg Co-codemol they’ve prescribed and the pain doesn’t go. He’s also on a steroid spray and antibiotic spray.

just wondered if there are any health professionals or people who have had similar op - is this normal?

Neither of us expected the after effects to be this bad.

TIA!
xx

I was exactly the same when I had this about 3 or 4 years ago. What packing does he have in his nose? I had the dissolvable stuff and for about 3-4 days it was horrific. My throat was so sore from the tube but made worse as you cannot breathe through your nose. I nearly chocked on blooming paracetamol tablets so spent 4 days drinking calpol 6 plus from the bottle. I think it was day 7 that I started to feel better. Ended up having 3 weeks off work sick

He will still most likely have blood & gunge running down the back of his nose, has he tried sucking ice or ice lollies to soothe his throat & an icepack on his nose will cause the blood vessels to contract & slow/stop the bleeding.

Ah thanks for the responses. I’m sorry you had a tough time with it too.

Yes he’s sucking ice cubes and frozen drinks too, and ice packs on his nose. He doesn’t have any packing in it at all and hasn’t been told to do any washes/rinses of it which I thought was weird. He has to go back next week at some point to have it cleared out.

They gave him a 2 week sick note and we both thought he’ll be back to work within a week but that’s not going to happen at this rate.
