Type 2 diabetes testing blood sugar

What are the best times for testing blood sugar with a finger prick test? Should I test before breakfast and then later in the evening?

For diagnosis? Or to monitor your ranges?

For monitoring. Its actually for an elderly relative who can't do their own testing. Their blood sugar is constantly above 10 and I want to make sure I'm testing at the right times of day.

When you wake up before breakfast then an hour after each meal

Ok, it can depend om what type of treatment they are on.
I'm a t2 on insulin twice a day; I test before breakfast, then straufht before and two hours after each meal, and before bed.

More if I have a hypo.

Before i was on insulin I was on tablets, and tested before breakfast, 2 hours after breakfast and 2 hours after tea.

I've also tried a libre sensor for a fortnight. It was good on terms of being able to just scan rather than fingerprick, but not brilliantly accurate (about 8 units out compared to a fingerprick test) /also had a time lag when my sugars were consistently high (higher than your relatives); it did give my diabetes team a picture of my levels over the day though.

Are you or they able to check with their gp surgery what they recommend?
