How long in your experience does the cramping last after having a coil fitted? I'm on day 2 and it's pretty, I thought I was pretty good with pain!

Mine only lasted a few days (worse was trying to get the damn thing in!). I had it done a few years ago but I think they maybe lasted 3 or so days?

Ok thanks, hoping things improve soon, I’ve been so short fused and feel so crampy th at I’m regretting it so far, need to get past the pain!

It will be so worth it (hopefully)! Is yours copper or mirena? Mine is copper but wish I’d got mirena as I have to say my periods got so much heavier for the first few months, but I had mine as an emergency. Hope the cramping eases up for you

I had no cramping at all.

My GP recommended buscopan to control the cramps (about 3-4 days). Worked really well.

7-10 days but significantly better after 3-4 days

So I’m still bleeding since had it fitted, and the bleeding has got heavier in the last two days . It was light for two weeks and now heavier, not like a normal period though…. Is this normal???

I had mine fitted about 3 weeks ago, had 2 days of cramps. Then a couple of days of spotting then about 8 days of bleeding. A couple of days off and now I am bleeding lightly and cramping again but this would be when I am normally on my period anyway. I am assuming it will take a couple of months to settle :)

Are you due a period ? If so, that’s what it will be.

I think it can take a while to settle. My sil took a couple of months. She generally had heavy periods but they are much better now the coil has settled

I was lucky just a day of cramping/feeling tender and a bit of bleeding. What I wasn't prepared for was the 'pinch' when it gets fitted. Very odd. It shock me a little for a couple of days.

topsyturvypants · 10/09/2022 00:21

Thanks everyone. No I had my period just before I had the coil fitted so I wouldn’t be due for a period for another week…. And without tmi it’s a more watery blood, but with my previous period and now the coil I’ve been bleeding for 3.5 weeks. Just hoping it will stop soon! I was very regular before with 4 weekly period for 5 day each….

I’m afraid I had 10 months of shear hell daily 8 to 10 hours of utter agony, in the end walked into A and E begging it to be removed 2 months later it was. Haven’t looked back since. I hope you get better soon and don’t go to hell as I did.
